The first release of Liquid War has been written in 1995 by my friend Thom-Thom (Thomas Colcombet). The algorithm was very primitive and the gameplay was rather poor. Still it gave an idea of what could be done with the algorithm he had found.
Indeed, Liquid War 1 came out as Thom-Thom was trying to find an algorithm to efficiently find the shortest path from one point to another. The initial purpose was to make a Warcraft-like game. It happens that this project has been totally abandonned, and he concentrated on Liquid War.
